The new government led by Narendra Modi views Vietnam as a strategic partner for its Act East policy. For example our President visited Hanoi and their Head Of State came to India.
When Prime minister Dung arrived in India he was welcomed by prime minister Modi and our PM said "relations with south eastern countries have intensified as they will help in the development of our country".The joint statement made by both the leaders include 5 areas/sector of cooperations and they are-

India-Vietnam defense cooperation include- high level exchange visits, security dialogue, service to service interaction, naval ships visit, ship construction, training , maintaining military equipments, joint exercise etc.
Vietnam is in the process of procuring Offshore Patrol Vehicles (OPV) that are currently manufactured here in India. These small but lethal war platforms are used to do constabulary operation and for anti piracy missions.
